Burj Khalifa
At 828 metres and 160 floors this was until recently the world's tallest structure. The observation deck at the 124th floor is the 2nd highest in the world after the Shanghai World Financial Centre.
Dubai Marina
Dubai Marina offers world class hotels, a beautiful beach and a mall, as well as coffee shops, restaurants, and shops. Rent a yacht for a cruise around the area opt to dine on a dhow cruise around Dubai.
Nightlife
Once night falls, thousands of people take to the streets for a good night out. This can range from trendy clubs, sophisticated rooftop terraces and buzzing beach venues, in addition to fancy cocktail bars. Dubai's entertainment calendar is always full and open-air concerts, live music shows and operas are regular.
Shopping
Dubai is a shopper's paradise and a top retail destination. Shopping is a big leisure pastime here, and the high point of the year are the two big shopping festivals - the Dubai Shopping and the Dubai Summer Surprises. Held in January and February there are great bargains to be picked up, as well as live concerts and performances by international artists.
Dubai's malls are massive and loaded with stores, restaurants, cinemas and entertainment places. Choose between Dubai Mall, Mercato, Mall of Emirates, Ibn Batuta Mall, Dubai Marina Mall, Town Centre Jumeirah, Wafi Mall… the list goes on.
It's not all malls and air-conditioned shopping, though. The dazzling Gold Souk is steeped in history and a good place to buy cheap gold. There's also the Spice Souk with its colourful array of spices that are a feast for the senses. The architecturally beautiful Souk Madinat has everything from clothes to spices to crafts to tourist souvenirs.
Food And Drink
Top of the list of local specialities is the shawarma, a delicious snack of meat cooked slowly on a vertical skewer and then cut in strips and rolled into pita bread (called Khubus), along with salad and dressing.
There are dozens of restaurants all over the city, ranging from Michelin-starred fine-dining experiences where you'll need to book well in advance, to street vendors selling tasty falafels.
You'll find at least one restaurant serving international cuisine at any of the top hotels in the city. This includes Italian, Japanese, Indian, Lebanese, and Chinese. The standard of food in hotels is excellent and there are lots of places that serve food from all around the globe.

Visa Requirements
- Entry into the UAE varies from country to country. Check the section on the UAE page for visa and customs regulations. This page will have a list of countries and their visa requirements.
- If your country of nationality appears on the list of 'no advance visa arrangements required' to visit the UAE, you can get a visa on arrival. In this case you get a 30-days visit visa free of charge
- Nationals of countries requiring a prearranged UAE visa can now apply and pay for their visas online through emirates.com. As of 29 April 2016, GCC residence permit holders will need to apply for a UAE visa before arriving in Dubai.
Getting around
- Take the Metro to avoid traffic. A day pass gives you unlimited rides that cover metro and buses. There are two main lines, the Red and the Green which cover the length and breadth of the city, stopping at all convenient stations.
- The Dubai Tram links Dubai Marina with Burj Al Arab and the JBR area.
- Dubai also has a superb public bus network which is cheap and connects you with several districts in Dubai.
- Taxis are plentiful, and the best way to get one is at the taxi queue at one of the malls or outside a hotel. Taxis are metered, and rates of the different companies are almost the same.
