Travel to Riyadh

Discover Riyadh

The political, financial and administrative capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, has grown from a small walled town of 20,000 people to a vast, sprawling metropolis that buzzes with activity and is rich in museums and historical sights. Set on a desert plateau in the country’s centre, Riyadh’s combination of deeply rooted Saudi traditions and modern skyscrapers makes it a fascinating place to visit, where traditional and modern sit side by side.

Riyadh is primarily the country's business destination, but if you're here to see the sites then there are a few hidden gems to look out for. The city is home to some excellent museums that chart the history and culture of the region, and the truly magnificent Masmak Fortress is a must-see while you're here. Head there in the evening when the floodlights make the fortress even more dramatic and imposing.

Things To Do

Al Faisaliah Tower

View the awe-inspiring glass globe and striking architectural design of the 44-floor Al Faisaliah Tower. Visit the fourth tallest building in Saudi Arabia and enjoy a delish meal in The Globe, the tower’s restaurant, which offers 360 panoramic views of the city.

Masmak Fortress

Visit the imposing Masmak Fortress, which is surrounded by sand and was built around 1865. The fortress has played a major part in the Kingdom’s history, as it was here that Ibn Saud recaptured Riyadh.

The Sky Bridge

Take a high-speed elevator to the 99th-floor Sky Bridge and enjoy the panoramic views from the Kingdom Centre. See the porcelain, pottery, jewellery, coins, and statues that are displayed at the Antiquities Museum.

Shopping

Experience traditional Saudi Arabian culture at Souq Al Jamal, Riyadh’s camel market, or wander around Souq Al-Thumairi for its carpets and jewellery. You’ll find lots of modern malls in Riyadh too, with one of the most well-known and luxurious located within the Kingdom Centre.

Food And Drink

Restaurants in Riyadh serve up a variety of international cuisine, as well as typical Saudi Arabian food. The national dish, Kabssa, is worth trying and is a delicious fusion of chicken or lamb and spiced rice. Elsewhere, you'll find everything from cordon bleu restaurants serving international dishes, to street vendors selling on-the-go spicy samosas and snacks.
