Ahmedabad (also called Amdavad) is Gujarat's largest city and is India's UNESCO World Heritage City. Its original name was 'Karnavati' but was later changed and named after 15th century ruler Ahmad Shah I.

Bhadra Fort

Sabarmati Ashram
Visit the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent movement for India's independence, including the historic Sabarmati Ashram. It remains the largest tourist attraction and lies on the tranquil stretch of the Sabarmati River.

Food And Drink
Gujeratis love their food so there are restaurants on every street in Ahmedabad. The locals are mainly vegetarians but with the influx of international and domestic food chains non-vegetarian cuisine has gained in popularity. The highpoint for food for tourists is the traditional 'thali'. It consists of a range of salads, appetizers, snacks, breads, pulses, vegetable curries and sweets - all served in one big tray.
If you are the experimental type, try one of the road side stalls at Manekchawk or the Khau Galli in Law Garden area. Various stalls only open in the evening and stay open till late at night.
