Jazeera Airways joined the Egypt Civil Aviation Authority for a press conference to announce the launch of direct flights from Kuwait International Airport to Sphinx International Airport. The press conference was also attended by Pilot Amr El Sharkawy, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, Pilot Ahmed Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Airports Company, Dr. Nayef Al Tayyar, First Secretary, Embassy of Kuwait, Omar Islam Shalaby, President of Imperial Travel Center and Rohit Ramachandran, Chief Executive Officer, Jazeera Airways.

Jazeera, Kuwait’s leading low cost carrier is flying from Kuwait to Sphinx and back four times a week. The Sphinx airport which serves the city of Giza, is located close to the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza. Other tourist destinations, including the upcoming Grand Egyptian Museum and world class shopping centers will also be easily accessible from the airport. This helps put Giza on the map not only as a historic city, but also a shopping destination. The airport is an hour away from downtown Cairo and close to the Greater Cairo districts of 6 October and Sheikh Zayed, as well as the governorates of Fayoum and Beni Suef. All of this makes it ideally situated for tourists flying in from Kuwait and vice versa.

Speaking at the press conference El Sharkawy said: “This comes within the framework of the Ministry of Civil Aviation's plan to develop and revitalize air and tourism traffic to and from Egyptian Airports and attract the attention of many International Airlines to continue exploring new destinations.”

This is the seventh destination Jazeera Airways will fly to in Egypt including Alexandria, Assiut, Cairo, Luxor, Suhag and Sharm El Sheikh. With direct flights from Kuwait and network connections from other destinations in the Gulf, Jazeera also facilitates tourism from other parts of the region.

Ramachandranhighlighted: “Jazeera Airways started flying to Egypt in 2006 with flights to Luxor, Alexandria and Assiut. Today, we are delighted to announce our landing at our seventh destination in Egypt – the Sphinx International Airport. This makes Jazeera Airways the first GCC carrier ever to operate direct flights to Sphinx airport. With four flights a week, we offer a convenient and affordable travel option for tourists from Kuwait as well as other part of the region. By boosting leisure travel to Egypt, we aim to support the Ministry of Tourism’s goal to develop the tourism sector and reach 30 million tourists by 2028. I would like to especially take this opportunity to thank the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority for their tireless efforts to open up greater connectivity to this beautiful country. ”

Omar Shalaby , Chairman & CEO of Imperial Travel Center, Jazeera’s exclusive GSA in Egypt, said: “2005 was the beginning of our partnership with Jazeera Airways. Back then, it was the first Arab airline to fly into Luxor Airport, and today, Jazeera did it again. After 18 years it is again the first Arab airline to fly into Sphinx Airport. I would like to thank Mr. Marwan Boodai, the Founder and Chairman of Jazeera Airways, for his confidence in me and ITC Group over the past 18 years. I would like to thank Mr. Rohit Ramachandran, Chief Executive Officer of Jazeera Airways, for his great efforts in taking things to the next level steadily and confidently with a clear future vision not only as an airline but as adiverse conglomerate in the future. This includes ropening new non-traditional destinations, airport terminals, duty free shops and ground handling operations”
